ELKIN and HOPE collaborate to donate children's books to schools in Kenya

Hope_elkin_ad_540

ELKIN is designed by sisters Brit and Kara Smith. This season, the Smith sisters launched with the theme of Gothic Romance and enlisted their musician friend Z Berg of the band The Like to model the collection. Their hangtags come with a reading and music list pertaining to the season's genre, and for every piece sold, one children's book is donated through the H.O.P.E Campaign to children in Kenya.  The first set of children's books will be going to a home, school and living compound run by retired women educators who are part of the Kenya Women Educators Association in Meru/Embu out of Nairobi.  The books are part of the Young African Express and Jacaranda Design's "learning for a better life" program.

You can purchase the collection at ShopBopSteven Alan in Venice or Madison on 3rd in Los Angeles

HOPE Announces Fashion And Art Collaboration With Hurley, Seathos, and Incubus Frontman Brandon Boyd

Brandon Boyd's life is characterized by self-expression -- a fusion of art, music, writing, activism and surfing. His love of the ocean is often the catalyst in his efforts as an activist, and this collaboration was no exception.

A multi-talented visual artist who works in a variety of mediums, Boyd took to his sketchbook for this project. His watercolor and ink drawings result in imagery that is both beautiful and subtly stirring. These designs are featured on the Hurley collaboration shirts.

"My relationship with Hurley began over a decade ago and was born of a mutual appreciation for surfing, music, art and like minds. We have done projects together in the past but it seemed like it was time we truly put our collective heads together to make a real dent in a situation that affects us all, most importantly the swiftly growing problems in our oceans. We start herein as surfers and musicians, and are moving forward as stewards of our Island," says Boyd about his longstanding relationship with Hurley and his mission behind the creative collaboration.

A portion of the sales from the limited edition collection, available at Buckle nationwide, specialty retailers and online at Hurley.com beginning April 15, 2011, will benefit H.O.P.E., a 501(c)3 non-profit focused on involving artists and their contributions in campaigns, programs and events to support existing social projects that promote education and peace around the world.

"Brandon is the epitome of the Hurley brand, making him a perfect partner for us," says Greg Teal, Music and Entertainment Marketing Manager at Hurley. "He's not only a talented musician and artist, but also a lover of surfing who champions ocean-related causes, something that is very important to us here at Hurley."

Hurley in partnership with the seathos foundation will celebrate the launch of the Brandon Boyd collection with an art show featuring the original works the collection is based upon.  Boyd will paint a mural on a wall of the Hurley )( SPACE gallery for the show. The event, which is open to the public, will take place on Saturday, April 2nd from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Hurley )( SPACE Gallery (1945 Placentia Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92627).
